ABSA SCHOLARSHIPS
Infundo manages the application process; governance and communication and oversees the payment process for the Absa SA scholarships. Infundo consults in the area of the scholarships and reports back to the Absa Scholarship Forum on matters of governance; decision making; reconciliations; audits and knowledge management with respect to applicants; and final recipients who meet all the criteria for the academic year to be granted. Infundo also sends out all the communication, including customised contracts and general messaging. We are the interface with applicants and then recipients; for ABSA and with the payment provider Fundi.
In the Rest of Africa, for ABSA, Infundo manages the process end to end - including advisory to the Citizenship managers; governance; communication of all information and customised documentation, including contracts, and a call centre for queries and interface. Knowledge management of all relevant audit documents is a key role.
infundo has managed this process for Absa for the 2016; 2017; 2018 and 2019 intake for the South Africa region and also consulted to Uganda; Kenya; Tanzania and Zambia for their internal scholarship recipients and subsequent disbursements. For Uganda and Kenya this has also included scholarship management of their external recipients. The call centre has been managed via WhatsApp for students in the Africa regional offices of Absa to contact Infundo directly; for management of daily queries and support.
For 2019; Absa requested that infundo host all applications on an online portal and thus all updates and communication happened from the Infundo Bursary Management system. This has been a tremendous success and communication was streamlined and knowledge management improved through a more technical and user-friendly interface.

Barclays Africa is meeting the #FeesMustFall need by directing funds for tertiary education via their Citizenship Portfolio. The target group is the “Missing Middle” and hence financial support is given to those who have financial needs (above NSFAS threshold) and within a set upper limit. Academic achievement and financial need are ranked inversely to determine the best candidates taking these and motivation into account. http://www.barclaysafrica.com/barclaysafrica/Citizenship/Education-and-skills
The budget is split into 2 amounts:
As of September 2016 the application process is complete and contracting is presently underway for internal recipients. Psycho-social contracting for coaching begins in October with Gail and Charmaine meeting students across the country in EC; MPL; KZN; Gauteng; FS; NW; Limpopo and WC.
We begin the administrative and shortlisting process for 2017 later this year; and culminating in the awarding of scholarships for 2017 in Feb 2017.
