CIE EVALUATION 2016
Infundo was asked to perform an organisational evaluation on CIE for one of their funders; before the next funding cycle as part of a learning partnership. The brief was to establish the impact of CIE work and the kinds of strategic changes which would be recommended to improve and deepen sustainable impact. Unlike other external evaluations, CIE itself was a key partner in establishing the focus; and also being part of the reflective process with our team.
Having been in awe of CIE work in the past; it was an honour to work with the CIE management; CIE staff;Regional Managers in 3 provincial sites - NW, FS and Limpopo; CIE schools in these areas and stakeholders in education. The interview process was designed by Gail Wrogemann; and Charmaine Smith and Raymond Nettmann (an associate research psychologist) performed the interviews with Gail. Site visits and telephonic interviews; as well as document analysis and reading of materials formed part of the evaluation process. Innovatively, the funder also requested 2 self reflection processes; which Infundo facilitated as part of the scope: these 2 sessions included CIE Exec management and subsequently the whole staff towards the end of the process. The learning from these reflection sessions were integrated into the final report.
We were excited to be part of an evaluation which had, at its heart, a deep organisational learning orientation. Organisations which are able to learn through reflection to establish their own areas of potential growth are better able to navigate the plethora of changes and challenges in our work which, in a development space, provides a platform for agility and sustainability. Learning organisations also model learning as a key facet and skill; and are thus able to teach this to their constituents via partnering and collaboration.
We concluded this evaluation in July 2016, humbled by the breadth and depth of the work which CIE is responsible for; and the heart with which they perform their role in Catholic Education.
